IUI #7?

I'm trying to get my head around doing another IUI this cycle, even though Dr. G said it's too early to make that call. I was telling my mom, who was planning to come up and care for LG the day of the retrieval, and she said, "You must be disappointed." And, to be sure, I am disappointed that my body hasn't responded as well I as I would have liked. It's been a lot of build up and a lot of drugs for what looks like nothing (thankfully, my total drug cost has only been around $300--the one thing my insurance has been good about). But I'm not disappointed about the possibility of not doing IVF.

I mean, I never really wanted to do IVF anyway. I just thought, listening to my current and former RE, that IVF was the best way to go. The goal is to have a baby, not to do IVF. And an IUI with 3-4 follicles might just be the way to do that. Not doing IVF would mean saving roughly $9000. Not doing IVF would mean no anesthesia, no PIO, no traveling twice to the clinc (the IVF clinic is about 1.5 hrs from my house, twice as far as Dr. G's usual office), no worrying about childcare for LG and a traveling "companion" for me.

I'd really like to be out of this limbo of IUI vs. IVF, and I'd like to be able to give my mom a definite answer about if/when I'd need her to come up. But, ultimately, I think I'm okay with the possibility of doing another IUI (with the very last IUI specimen of LG's donor left on the planet). After all, I've gotten pregnant 3 times with IUIs. Maybe I'm just trying to look on the bright side of a really crappy situation, I don't know. The only thing that really worries me is the 4 follicle scenario, as I DO NOT WANT TWINS. But I guess that's why I'm paying Dr. G the big bucks, to help me make these decisions. Oh, yeah, I'm doing just fine ;)

  1. I think it's a definite bright side - IUIs are a whole lot less invasive, and you have had good luck with them before...

I'm hoping you get a (single) full brother or sister for LG out of this with no fuss, no muss, and no reason to have to go through any of this again. It sure sounds like you've got a good shot at that, from where you're standing right now.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

  2. Yeah, the limbo thing. I totally get not wanting to be in limbo - it sucks to feel like you can't move forward really when there are so many unknowns. By the way, I think twins would be cool. You might like it more than you think. ;-) (at least, I've always thought so since seeing The Parent Trap)

  3. I'm sorry for the limbo. That totally sucks. I hope the "right" answer becomes clear. Good luck.
