Well, I tested. Negative.
Before anyone tells me that they tested negative at 10dpo and went on to have a healthy baby about nine months later, please stop. It's not that I've discounted the possibility entirely, but I'm being realistic here and I know a happy ending is extremely unlikely.
Here are some facts: my first two pregnancies I didn't test before 12dpo, but I'm assuming I would have tested positive earlier (14dpo beta at 80 and 170+ respectively). After all, even the disaster of pregnancy #3 managed to turn a stick positive at 12dpo with a barely there beta of 17. So here's the math I'm doing: if there's any hcg in my system, which there should be if something implanted at a GOOD time (because the later the implantation, the greater likelihood of miscarriage), it would have shown up on a stick this morning (first morning urine and all). Like I said, I know it's possible, but not likely to result in a pregnancy that would have the kind of numbers I would want. Because I can't relive May 2009.
In the meantime, I've got the sore breasts, and the exhaustion, and the nausea, all of which can be chalked up to way too much supplementary progesterone and estrogen. I'm trying to decide if I should try to get an appointment with Dr. Gorgeous this week to talk about my plan, or just ask the nurses to run it by her.
Well, before I go, let me amend my earlier plea: if anyone has tested negative at 10dpo (on a GOOD peestick, like First Response) and ended up with a beta of >100 at 14dpo or equivalent, maybe I do want to hear it...
I'm not liking my reality these days, at least when it comes to human reproduction.
While this is not exactly what you asked, my friend who I was an egg donor for tested negative the day before her positive blood test. Her twin boys turned eight last month.
ReplyDeleteShe doesn't remember the beta level but I can tell you she did not test with a cheapie because she has commented to me that when she was TTC, she didn't know cheap HPTs existed.
I completely get where you're coming from but stranger things have happened.
♥
ReplyDeletecrap.
I'll give you the crap, and hoist a drink for you in a few days if you're right.
But in the meantime, weirder things have happened, and a friend of mine doing IUIs who got pregnant shortly after me not only tested negative at 10dpo, but tested negative at 12dpo and 14dpo, and didn't get a positive until 16dpo. Her pregnancy has been otherwise completely uneventful.
Yeah...thanks, you too. I also have friends who had perfectly healthy kids after incredibly low betas, or negative HPTs until 16dpo (even with twins!). I'd be glad to eat crow (what does that mean, anyway?!) if I'm wrong, but I don't see that happening for me...
ReplyDeleteHi! Just here to give you some hope. Although this isn't my story (I tested negative with crappy pee sticks on my pregnancy until 13dpo), it is the story of a very good friend of mine who went through ivf at the same time I did (with the same doctor) and got an 18 on her first beta. Our children were born healthy and one day apart.
ReplyDeleteHere's the link to her results...

After she got them and was feeling concerned, she asked the chatboards for some reassurance and here is some of what she received back...

I hope this helps get you through to your beta.
I'll be sending tons of positive energy your way!!
Beta of 7 with my 3 year old at 14 DPO, and beta of 22 with my almost 1 year old (same time frame). I did have an 11 week loss with a beginning beta of 6. They actually were considered negative tests because the lab thought 25 or higher is pregnant. Good luck...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Heather and Gwynn, for sharing your stories. I know beta levels vary substantially. What I'm wondering is if, for a given person, beta levels tend to be similar for *successful* pregnancies. Given my own history, I've been assuming that without a beta of 150+ at 14dpo, it's just not going to be viable, as my losses had substantially lower betas (44 and 80 at 14dpo). I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
ReplyDeleteThey told my friend that her was just a really, really late implanter because she the betas began to take off after another week. I think that's the better thing to judge it by, the doubling time vs. the initial beta. Hang in there! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a negative HPTer normally, so I dont know that I can be of help... I'm sending big hugs and hopes for this cycle...
