Biography of my Endometrium

I gave birth to my endometrium last night. While I didn't relish the pain that went along with that task, I'm glad to have had the experience. It means things are moving in the right direction and, I'm hoping, won't take the full pill cycle to resolve. I've learned a new term: endometrial hyperplasia. Apparently if unresolved it can become cancerous. Apparently there might be a D&C in my future if it doesn't resolve on its own.

Now, this might seem strange, since I wasn't actually, you know, pregnant. But I did have a couple embryos in my body for a short time at least, and this feels a whole lot like my first miscarriage (I suppose intense uterine contractions and a lot of blood loss, coupled with grief and anger, will do that). The timing is absolutely uncanny. I found out I was pregnant October 26, 2002. I was spotting. October 29, before I'd even learned my first beta, I woke up bleeding heavily. That wasn't the end of my pregnancy; my beta levels rose normally for weeks. But there was never any fetal pole, and I finally had a D&C on December 19, after my body refused to miscarry on its own, after a shot of methotrexate failed.

I didn't look at the clock, but I'm sure when I woke up last night, laboring, it was already October 29.

I'm not sure what the universe is trying to tell me, but all three years of my ttc history I have never been able to cycle in November. November is the month of miscarriage and aborted plans. It is also my birth month.

  1. Oh GOD that sounds horrible. I am so sorry. Glad it's not an ectopic, but honestly, this doesn't sound a whole lot better or easier to deal with. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. Anger & unhappiness? That sounds about right for this shitty hand you just got dealt.

Thinking of you & hoping this is an end to it.

  2. Last night certainly wasn't fun...but the emotional setback is still harder than the physical one, you know? December better bring the two of us good news--this limbo sucks.

  3. So sorry you had to go through that. Really crappy. Hopefully you'll be able to put this behind you quickly, and start your new cycle soon.
