Did I tell you that before the IVF, I kept instructing LG (who has a perpetual cold, it seems): no one is getting sick until after October 14! Well, she listened.
Sick Girl and I are home for the day. She's watching TV. I'm trying to decide if I can do something resembling work. Now, most of the work that needs to be done is on my desk or computer at school, which is unfortunate. I'm hoping tomorrow she's back at school, as I have a stack of midterms to grade and multiple letters of rec to write.
The admin assistant in my department? It pays to be on her good side. My classes, they are covered. So the two days I thought I would miss due to IVF? I guess I'm taking them this week. Ugh.
Update: Why is it that sick kids have more energy than sick adults? Over the course of the day LG went from lazing around watching TV to inventing a game called "hop and flop," which involved belly flopping on her bed. There was another game that involved throwing her (foam) chair (she said she was "rolling the dice"). Meanwhile, I have completely crashed and will probably go to bed in about 30 seconds (it's now 7:30). All my plans for sending her to school were for naught: they've actually CLOSED her school until Monday, in order to contain the spread of "flu like illnesses." She also has two half days next week. And I'm looking at heading back to the clinic for monitoring. When exactly am I supposed to do my job?
One cardinal rule: always be super nice to the admin/ secretary/ assistant. They can make your life so much better!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that LG is, in fact, sick... and I hope your itchy throat doesn't become the flu.
Honestly, I'm totally impressed by how many balls you are juggling right now.
I agree! Being nice pays off!
ReplyDeleteHope you sick ladies feel better soon!
Hello there,
ReplyDeleteI'm a SMC too, once via divorce and once via IUI. It sounds like we have some similarities in our stories.
My daughter is 11 and my son is 1. Not what I had planned, that's for sure! But like you, I went through miscarriages,(3) and had a Dr. Evil refuse to do testing. He told me to come back when I was married. Never went back at all, thank you very much!
My new doc diagnosed me with lupus anticoagulant, from what I understand it has very similar symptoms to APA. It took me 7 cycles to conceive my son, and I had daily heparin shots during pregnancy.
So sorry you and your little one are sick. This H1N1 is scary! Schools are closing around here too. I got my shot at work today, but none of the clinics around have any for the 'general public' which means my kids are out of luck.
Anyway, that's me in a nutshell. It's nice to see other successful SMC's out there. Everyone in this 1-horse town thinks I'm a nutcase. Because only nutcases (and farmers breeding their cows) use FROZEN SPERM!!!
Best of luck in your efforts to have another baby!

Rachel,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for introducing yourself. I'm glad it ultimately worked out for you! My original plan was to have two kids about 5 years apart...now it's looking like 7! Once it happens, I'm sure I won't care, but right now Baby #2seems like an impossible dream.
