It's occurred to me more than once lately that I'm not sure who my "community" is at this point, at least when it comes to blogging. I read some blogs by academics, some by SMCs, some by folks dealing with IF/RPL, some blogs by former IFers who are now parents (but mostly because I found their blogs when they were, like me, full of angst, and their voices still resonate). My blog reading habits are changing, as I become both more and less entrenched in this world of IF.
So who's here? There are a number of names who seem to be semi-regular commenters but whose blogger profiles aren't available. And I'm sure--though I don't like to think about lurkers!--there are others who read who haven't said hello. So who's here? Drop me a line in the comments if you haven't introduced yourself. Let me know your story or how you ended up at Something Remarkable.
I'll sign in - Sprogblogger here! Long boring story which you know already, Gwinne. I must have found you via LFCA but to be honest I don't remember...
ReplyDeleteOh, Sprogblogger, your story is anything but boring! I've got that, err, therapy appointment later.... I'll let you know how that goes.
ReplyDeleteI'm still here! Ive just been horrid at commenting, mea culpa. <3
ReplyDeleteHere! Can't remember how I found you - whether you found me first, or I found you, if I found you, how that happened. But I'm a regular reader. I believe you know my story already : )
ReplyDeleteMo
Hi, Kristina here. I am not sure how I found you either but likely through the network of other smc's and ttc/if folks. I have found lots of blogs that I follow through lists of blogs that others follow. I have tried several IUIs and recently explored co-parenting in depth with someone but have decided against it. soo, I hope to start ttc again soon but depends on factors only partly in my control. hope to try medicated IUI soon. hope also to eventually start my own blog! thanks for writing.
ReplyDeleteHi, Mo! Hi, N! (Glad you're still here!) So this sort of feels like the moment in my classes when I comment to the present people about the number of absent people :)
ReplyDeleteKristina, if/when you do start your own blog, let me know and I'll drop by...
Ha! :) thanks for the recognition of us as "good students" hehe I'll definitely let you know about blog and will appreciate support if and when I start. I feel like I'm getting closer. Definitely have appreciated reading others (your) stories and getting inspiration, learning, etc.
ReplyDeleteLurker here - Linda from Michigan. I am kinda-sorta-maybe thinking about becoming a SMBC. I can't remember how I found your blog but I really enjoy it. I am a teacher, too, albeit in a middle school.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking about the possibilities of SMC, and I first came to your blog because I wanted to get a sense of what that life might look like once a baby is born. I love the writing here and have read all the back archives.
ReplyDeleteLinda and Maggie, thanks for introducing yourselves! Feel free to email me (gwinne [at] yahoo [dot] com) if you want to chat about SMC stuff in more detail.

Certifiably crazy
I could relate to two of those in your blog, so I read when I have a chance.
Don't remember how I got here. One night with insomnia I bookmarked about 50 SMC blogs I found from blog rolls.
I've commented before but only once or twice, I think. I'm a college English prof in my forties. So that's part of why I read. I found your blog months ago via Sprogblogger or Mo, I think. I have a weird connect to the IF world. Here goes:
ReplyDeleteI'm happily married and have three children. After my third was born, I had a life-threatening hemorrhage and was saved by emergency surgery: a hysterectomy. It was very, very desperate and awful. I nearly didn't make it.
Despite having as many children as I wanted, I still had a really difficult time after that surgery. And I somehow stumbled upon IF blogs online. At the time I found empathy there or maybe just community. I, too, was experiencing a failure of my "feminine" body, albeit radically different. And no one around me IRL seemed to understand. I did have my children and for that I am so grateful, but I did feel a sense of loss that I saw in IF bloggers. And then I just started really caring about them: about sprogblogger and Mo and mekate. So I kept reading and in the course of two years I guess I just found them all (and you) comforting and inspiring. My vulnerability was mine but it was also--in different ways--every other woman's. So I still read. Even though I'm doing well now, I feel invested in the women that helped me through my ordeal...even when they had no idea that they were.
Sorry I missed the rollcall! Found you through InBetween's blog...and my story:

Will now go stick my head in the oven.
Love,

Oh, Maddy, you are nothing if not dramatic :) We seem to be stuck in a similar place; I hate that you're there, but it's nice that I'm not the only one in this trying boat...
ReplyDeleteRebecca, thank you so much for your story. I'm glad you're here. Are you blogging yourself? What's your field? (I do primarily c.20 lit, creative writing, and gender studies, which may or may not be obvious from ramblings on the blog!)
Hi! Met you first on SMC-ttc list, right after your first miscarriage and right before you conceived LG. Lost track when you left the lists, but spotted you, again, a few years ago, when you commented on another SMC blog I followed (don't remember which one, though).
ReplyDeleteI have my kids now, but I am still drawn to the IF community. I would say that IF haunts me.
I've only recently figured out that I can have replies emailed. Duh. Anyway...
ReplyDeleteI've become more of an administrator in the last few years (but have somehow managed to hang on to a 9-month contract...thank gawd). I'm down to just 3 courses a year and teach a variety of lit and theory courses and rhet/comp.
Hi.
ReplyDeleteI probably turned into some kind of a lurker as I hardly comment. But nowadays I am mostly so much behind on my reading.
Don't remember how I came to find your blog :-).
